Privacy Policy

This policy covers Grit® Ledger (ledger.grit.gg), the public match-statistics site for Grit®, operated by Team Grit LLC. It explains what we collect, why, where it is stored, and how to have it removed.

The short version

• We record what happens in Grit® matches — who played, what they did, and where they moved — and show it publicly, tied to Steam accounts.
• You do not need to sign in for your matches to appear here. They are recorded by the game server when you play.
• Signing in with Steam only ever tells us your Steam ID, public persona name and avatar. We never see your Steam password.
• There are no analytics, no advertising, and no trackers on this site.
• We do not sell or share your data, and we will not send you marketing.
• Everything is stored in the United States.

What we collect

1. Match data, from playing the game

When you play a match of Grit®, the game server records that match and sends it to us. This happens whether or not you have ever visited this site or signed in here. For each match we store:

• Your Steam ID and the Steam persona name you were using at the time.
• Match details: mode, map, region, game version, team size, player count, which team won, and when it was played.
• Which team you were on, and the outcome for you.
• Gameplay events: kills, knocks, assists, revives, deaths, damage dealt and taken, weapons fired and the cards they carried, items used, parachute and vehicle use, and similar in-match actions.
• Position samples: your in-game location, sampled roughly once per second for the length of the match. We want to be plain about this — it is a detailed record of where your character moved inside a match. It is game-world position only. It is not your real-world location, and we do not collect real-world location of any kind.
• The raw data file the game server produced, kept as received.

Aggregates are derived from the above: career totals, per-mode and per-weapon breakdowns, and leaderboard positions.

2. Signing in with Steam

Signing in is optional and only affects how the site treats you as a visitor — it does not change what is recorded about your matches. We use Steam OpenID, which is Valve's own sign-in flow: you authenticate on Steam's website, and Steam tells us only that a particular Steam ID signed in successfully. Your Steam password is never sent to us, and we could not intercept or store it.

Once you have signed in, we ask the Steam Web API for your public profile summary, which gives us your persona name and avatar image URL so the site can show who you are signed in as. We only make this request as part of a sign-in that you started.

3. Cosmetics

To draw your in-game nameplate, we ask Grit®'s own game services which banner, badge and title you have equipped. These are cosmetic item identifiers already visible to anyone who sees you in game.

4. What we deliberately do not collect

• No analytics or advertising services, and no tracking pixels or third-party trackers of any kind.
• No email address, real name, postal address, phone number, or payment details.
• No Steam password, and no access to your Steam account beyond your public profile.
• No real-world location, and no device fingerprinting.

Where it is stored

All data described here is stored on servers in the United States (Amazon Web Services, us-west-2, Oregon). If you are outside the United States, using this site or playing the game means your data is transferred to and stored in the United States.

Why we use it

• To publish match history, player profiles and leaderboards — the purpose of the site.
• To calculate statistics and rankings.
• To investigate cheating, abuse and technical faults, and to keep matches fair.
• To keep you signed in between visits.

We do not use your data for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell, rent or trade it. We will not send you unsolicited marketing.

Who else sees it

Match statistics on this site are public: player profiles, match records and leaderboards can be viewed by anyone, and may be indexed by search engines.

Beyond that, data reaches these third parties:

• Valve Corporation (Steam) — when you sign in, and when we request your public profile summary. Valve's handling of your data is governed by the Steam Privacy Policy.
• Google Fonts — this site loads two typefaces from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. Your browser contacts Google to fetch them, which discloses your IP address to Google. No other information is sent, and we receive nothing back about you.
• Our own services — the matchmaking and anti-cheat services that run Grit®, operated by Team Grit LLC under this same policy.
• Hosting — Amazon Web Services, as infrastructure provider.

We may also disclose data where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect the rights, safety or property of players or of Team Grit LLC.

Cookies

This site sets one cookie, and only after you choose to sign in. It holds a signed token containing your Steam ID, persona name and avatar URL, so the site can remember you. It expires after 7 days, and is marked HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite=Lax. Signing out deletes it.

There are no advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. If you never sign in, this site sets no cookies at all.

How long we keep it

Match records and the statistics derived from them are kept indefinitely, because they are the history the site exists to show. The sign-in cookie expires after 7 days. If you ask us to remove your data, see the next section.

Your choices and rights

You can sign out at any time, which deletes the sign-in cookie. Not signing in does not remove your match history, because that is recorded by the game server rather than by this site.

Depending on where you live — including if you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California — you may have the right to request access to the personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to or restrict how we use it, ask for a copy in a portable form, and complain to your data protection authority. California residents additionally have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising these rights; note that we do not sell personal information.

To exercise any of these, email privacy@grit.gg from the address associated with your Steam account, or include your Steam ID (the number in your profile URL) so we can identify the right records. We may need to verify that the request is really yours before acting on it.

One limitation worth being upfront about: match records describe matches played with other people. Where removing your data would destroy another player's record of a match they played, we may anonymise your entries rather than delete the match outright.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Steam accounts are subject to Valve's own age requirements. If you believe a child's data is here, contact us and we will remove it.

Security

Data is held on access-controlled infrastructure and served over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we do not store passwords or payment details, so there are no credentials here to lose.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be announced through our usual channels.
